There are grumblings all over social media about reach being down, platforms not sharing our content and users being penalised for using AI tools to generate their content.  If you rely on organic social media marketing to promote your business you may have noticed a dramatic drop in your reach and the amount of people seeing your posts.

But fear not.  There is something you can do about it.

Instead of battling the algorithms, trying to second guess what content performs well or resorting to becoming some kind of lunatic in front of the camera vying for attention, why not bring people onto the platform YOU own, your website.

A regular blog is a great way to build an engaged audience, position yourself as a trusted expert and turn loyal readers into clients.

Writing a blog is not that hard.  One of the main reasons people struggle is because they’re over thinking and over complicating it.

How to write a blog

Here’s how to write a blog that people will actually want to read and will help you start sending traffic to your website so you can stop fighting Facebook’s abysmal reach;

  1. Get clear on who it’s for.  Who is your ideal client and what things will they be interested in reading about?  Think about the time you spend online.  What do you tap into that Google search bar? How to? How can I? What happens when? Blogs are answers to questions, all you need to know is what questions are your audience asking?
  2. Don’t try to write on a blank sheet.  Overwhelm is the number one killer of content.  Break your blog into four sections; introduction, main body, conclusion and call to action.
  3. Include a call to action.  Now they’ve read your amazing blog, what do you want them to do next?  The longer they spend on your website looking around the more likely they are to buy something.  Do you have an offer you can send them to? A free resource? Or another relevant blog that solves the next problem?

Your blogs don’t need to be perfect.  They need to provide useful, relevant and interesting information.  That could include your way of doing things, a technique or strategy you use for solving a problem, raising awareness around something that it’s important in your industry or the area in which you work.

You can start creating a list of blog topics from the questions you get asked by your clients or on social media.  You can also use free social listening tools like Uber Suggest and Answer The Public which collate all the information people are searching for right now.

Publishing and promoting your business blog

Now you’ve written your blog you need to publish it.  You might think this is the last step but it’s not.  Optimising your blog for SEO will help your blog get found but that’s only part of it.  You have to promote your blog.  Let your email list know you’ve written a new blog and share it on your socials.  If someone in a networking or online group asks a question and you know you’ve written a blog that will help them – share it.  Your blogs are an important asset and writing them is just the first step.

Why not repurpose your blog and turn it into social media posts? This is a fast and simple way to batch create content and can save you hours.
