Imagine baking a loaf of bread.

You get all the ingredients together.

You prove the dough.

Then you bake the bread. Oooh that smell.

A lovely, fresh warm slice of bread. Not onto to the next slice. You get all the ingredients together. You prove the dough. Wait.  What? That’s not how you do it? You don’t bake it one slice at a time?

Of course you don’t. That would be a completely ineffective use of your time. So why are you doing your online marketing like that?

Writing all those social media posts and then, if you have time, writing a blog is like baking a loaf of bread one slice at a time.

Writing a blog and then chopping it up in social media posts is the way any sane person would do it. It’s the way I teach my clients to do it.

If you’re feeling burnt out, uninspired and overwhelmed maybe you should try it my way.

Follow my steps for spending less time on social media while still creating more powerful content marketing.

Step 1 – Create a blog plan

Create a blog plan. What are your audience’s burning questions and most pressing problems? Most sales start with a Google search. Planning out your next 12 blogs will ensure that you create relevant content. It will also mean that blogging becomes easier as you won’t first need to spend time wondering what to write about.

Step 2 – Write the blog

Write the blog. Keep it relevant. Keep it specific. Rule of thumb for a blog between 800 – 1000 words is sufficient. Break your blog up with subheadings as I’ve done with this one. This makes it easier for your reader to scan read your blog and means they are more likely to make it to the end of your blog to your call to action.  The bit where you tell them about your offer or what to do next.

Step 3 – Chop the blog up

Break your blog up. Chunk your blog down into stand alone social media posts. Direct people back to your blog and include the link. This will create more traffic to your website.

Step 4 – Repurpose

Repurpose. Repurpose. Repurpose. Use blogs as social media posts. Use posts as emails. Use emails as posts. You want to get as many eyeballs on your content as possible. Just because there are 365 days in a year and you want to show up every day doesn’t mean you should be sweating over creating 365 social posts, 365 emails as well as writing blog posts. No wonder you find marketing your business so draining.

I teach every single one of my clients to start with a blog. Write your longest piece of content first, which is your blog.  Then break that down into a dozen or so social media posts. Write once. Use twice.

If you need help creating a blog plan, writing blogs or chunking blogs down into separate social media posts why not join me for Blogbusters? It’s a 5 day short course and we cover everything you need to know about writing a profitable blog for your business. The course starts on Monday 14th March and you’re gonna need about an hour a day for 5 days.

You’ll leave knowing what to write about to attract clients, what’s your clients really want to know, how to structure a blog, how to write a headline so people find and click on your blog and how to repurpose that blog into other content that you can use on your social media channels.
