The bank balance is depressing and the next round of bills is looming. You’re worried about paying the rent and you’re sick of being in this situation every single month. You really need cash but short of posting “please buy something” you don’t know what to say to get the money rolling in.
If you’re skint and bricking it, that’s going to leak all over your copy. So, how do you get into a place where emotionally and mentally you feel like you’re explaining why someone should buy from you or why someone should work with you, without sounding desperate and needy?
How do you write content that isn’t just “I’ve got a bill and I need to pay it”?
Step One – Clear up your energy
Your community can smell your fear and your fear doesn’t solve their problem. The first thing you need to do is turn down the negative chatter. Hearing “I know everyone is struggling right now” is not helping you. Who are the people in your online community who are negative about money or the state of the economy? Some people are struggling but not all, Unfollow them or mute them. Their worries and fears are not supporting your goals. Listen to uplifting and upbeat podcasts and meditations. Watch some Ted talks about mindset, business, money, resilience and literally anything by Brene Brown.
Get yourself pumped up and in a good place to go into the arena and find your clients.
Step Two – Reframe
If you’re feeling stressed or you’re in a place where you are writing content out of panic, fear and lack then grab a pen and notepad and answer these questions;
- What is my intention for the people that I want to work with?
- What is their problem right now?
- How do you want them to feel after they’ve worked with you?
- What is the difference that you want to make to the people that you work with?
The answers are what you talk about in your content. Talk about the difference that you want to make. Show people what’s going to change if they work with you. Share testimonials so they can see what problems you’ve already solved.
- What’s the positive impact you are going to make on those clients who say yes to working with you?
- What is the biggest difference you are going to make to their life?
Make an offer on social media. Send an email to your list. Do a video and talk about someone you worked with before. Talk about your offers and be prepared to be repetitive. You can’t be a secret and a success.
Step Three – Go and find your people
Creating content is just the first step. Now you have to go and find your audience.
- Build your email list with a useful resource.
- Create a short low cost session that solves one problem or answers a question your community has.
- Find groups where your community hangs out and go and speak in them.
- Look for podcasts to be a guest on – invite yourself.
- Networking – online and offline is a great way to go and make friends and get people talking about your business for you when you’re not in the room.
You’re a powerful person, a competent professional. You do important work. You make a difference to people. You can positively impact someone’s life. Start writing your content showing your audience “if this is what you want, if this is the difference that you would like to see in your life, then I am the person who can help you get there”
Use your skills, your voice and your internet connection and go and be helpful. Remember why you started and above all don’t take it personally. Success is not a straight line.
