If I had a quid for every time I’ve heard someone say “I need to be more consistent on social media ” I could buy “X” (formerly known as Twitter) from Elon Musk, twice.  Consistency is one of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face and it’s not really a surprise.  Especially if you’re still fairly new. You are now the head of every department in your business.  You’re the accounts department, the person in charge of delivering the service, you do the admin and all the sales and marketing.  And if marketing isn’t exactly your favourite job it’s no wonder you haven’t nailed the consistency.  But, you must.  If you want regular eyeballs on your business and consistent leads in your inbox then you need to commit to marketing your business regularly.

Here are my 6 top tips for making your social media marketing more consistent in 2024.

1.Do marketing you like

If you hate making videos, stop making them.  If you love writing blogs, write more.  Start with the marketing you enjoy while you build up a habit.  Once you’ve nailed one form of marketing or one type of content and you’re doing it consistently, you can build other things in.  Start easy.

2. Decide how often you’re going to post

Make the decision once and stick to it. This will depend on how much time you have, how much content you have, whether you’re relying solely on organic content and how much new business you need.  You could start with twice or three times a week and then after a month build up to five times a week.

3. Recycle your content

The only person that sees everything you post is you.  You can afford to repeat posts. Especially if you have core offers on repeat throughout the year.  As long as you check the content before reposting it to make sure it’s still accurate it’s fine to keep using.  And in marketing,  repetition is your friend not your enemy.

4. Repurpose your content

A 500 word blog can become 10 or 12 separate social media posts. A video can become a text post and a text post can become a video.  Aim to get more eyeballs on your existing content rather than creating brand new all the time.

5. Make a plan

Waking up each morning and not having a clue what you’re going to talk about is the first killer of consistency.  I’m not a “details” person so my plan is loose.  I know what my priorities are and I know what my offer is.  I know what I’m selling in January so I know what I need to talk about.  Having a plan whether it’s a rough guide based on topics or you like details and want to plan your content down to each and every post will make it far easier for you to show up regularly.

6. Work on your mindset

Posting about your business and sharing offers takes guts.  Putting yourself out there day after day is no small achievement.  So when your posts get no reactions or your offers aren’t selling it can be incredibly difficult to keep going. Your mind monkeys may start making it personal, you’re not good enough, no one is interested, it’s too expensive and other similar bollocks.  It’s far more likely that there’s one or two small changes you need to make and you’ll be up and away.  Marketing is hard and that’s the same for everyone at some point.  Don’t take it personally, keep going and remember why you started in the first place.

Each of the tips I’ve included here can be done by anyone at any stage in their business, whether you’re brand new to it or you’ve been in business for years.  Simple habits and actions that build up to long term results.

Social media marketing is a powerful tool to help you grow an audience and increase the number of leads coming into your business but it’s only as good as the effort you put in.  The more you show up, the more people will learn about you and the services you offer.  People can’t buy services they don’t know about.
