The Word Shed
Build a business in your own words.
The close knit community for small business owners who want to build a business in their own words.
Talk about your work in your own words, with clarity, confidence and in your own voice.
Marketing has become exhausting.
Everyone has a framework, a funnel, a content calendar, a hook and a trend.
Somewhere along the way, brilliant business owners, normal people stopped sounding like themselves and started feeling like they had to sound like an X factor auditionee.
Maybe you recognise that feeling.
You know you're good at what you do. Your clients remind you all the time. You just can't seem to write about it without cringing, waffling or tripping over your own words.
Every time you sit down to write, you wonder whether you're saying it "right". You edit yourself before anyone else even sees the words.
You overthink, delete and start again.
Eventually you post something that sounds... okay.
But not like you.
What if instead of that constant second guessing...
Every Thursday morning you log into Zoom.
You arrive with half-written ideas.
Questions.
Doubts.
Something that isn't quite working.
But you leave knowing exactly what to write next.
Not because someone handed you a formula or because Chat GPT pumped out a generic set of words for you.
But because you've learnt to hear your own voice more clearly.
And you’ve learned how to take what’s in your head and turn it into powerful written statements.
Are you ready for a different relationship with marketing?
What happens inside The Word Shed?
Every week you can bring me the words you're stuck on.
A LinkedIn post. An email. A sales page. A workshop description. Whatever you're writing that week.
I’ll tell you what I'd change, why I'd change it and how to make it sound more like you.
Over time you'll stop needing me quite so much because you'll start making those decisions yourself.
Thursday in The Word Shed
Every Thursday morning we meet on Zoom. Some weeks we'll tackle writing. Some weeks we'll untangle pricing. Some weeks we'll talk about confidence, offers or what's getting in the way of you showing up.
There's no rigid agenda because when life is life-ing building a business has to fall in with everything else that we have going on.
Workshops and resources
Templates.
Training.
Writing exercises.
Recordings.
Everything inside The Word Shed is designed to help you communicate more naturally.
Not more noisily.
A small community
We're intentionally a small group. Small enough that everybody knows your name. Small enough that your writing gets properly read.
Most importantly, small enough that you're missed if you don't turn up.
Quarterly meet-ups
Because sometimes we get more done when we get together.
Is this for you?
The Word Shed is for you if...
✓ you're tired of marketing that feels performative, requires false confidence, or needs you to be someone you’re not
✓ you don't want to become an influencer
✓ you'd rather build trust than chase attention
✓ you know your work is good but struggle to explain why
✓ you've started sounding like everyone else
✓ you want people to recognise your voice the moment they read something you've written

This isn't a course you'll finish in a weekend.
Writing well isn't something you learn in six weeks. Most people don't need another quick fix. They need time to practise, experiment, receive feedback and gradually become more confident in their own words. That's why The Word Shed is a 12-month membership.
Choose the payment option that suits you:
- £200 per month (12 monthly payments)
- £2,000 when paid in full (equivalent to two months free)
Your membership fee is locked in for as long as you remain a member in good standing, so you'll never pay more than the price you joined at.
Doors open twice a year.
There are plenty of places that will teach you how to create content. The Word Shed isn't one of them. It's where you become someone who no longer stares at a blank page wondering what to say. It's where writing starts to feel like talking again. Where your marketing content sounds like a conversation instead of a performance. Where people recognise your voice before they notice your logo. Because your business doesn't need another formula - it needs you.
"The Word Shed is a psychologically safe place where as a business owner we have an opportunity to share the good bad and the ugly about business ownership.
Sharing our wins together and all the coming obstacles .
Clair's input to our writing style, content and relevance to audience is worth 10 times the cost of The Word Shed and is an absurd return on investment"
-Jeff Kidner

Why I started The Word Shed
I created The Word Shed because I wanted to build something that went beyond templates and tactics.
A place where people could learn a skill they'll use for the rest of their business.
Because writing isn't just about creating content. It's about finding a way to explain what you do with clarity, confidence and your own voice.
One of the biggest turning points in my own business came when I realised I didn't have to choose between being myself and being successful.
For a long time, I thought those two things were at odds with each other. That if I wanted my business to grow, I'd have to become louder, more polished, more confident... more like somebody else.
I was wrong.
The more I sounded like myself, the more my business grew.
That's why The Word Shed exists.
So other women can stop trying to sound like everyone else, learn the skill of communicating what they do with confidence, and discover that they don't have to choose either.
They can build a successful business in their own words.
Not quite sure if it's right for you? That’s okay - why don’t we have a chat about it. Book a call and you can find out first hand what happens inside the membership and then figure out if it’s something you need.
What current and past members have said……..
“Previously, I was struggling to write content and would always end up panicking thinking what am I going to write today. I can't tell you how much this stressed me out and held me back in my business. Since joining….I've been able to realise why - because I didn't really know who my ideal client was. I was also worried about having an opinion and putting myself out there. Clair has really built up my confidence to post, she is also extremely generous with sharing her expertise and gives so much value. If I had to sum up Clair, I'd say she's your biggest cheerleader and wants to help and see you succeed. If you're struggling with writing copy, want structure and ideas on how to make your posts more powerful then Clair is the person to do this. The other members are also really supportive, it's a lovely atmosphere and we all share ideas and try to help each other” Claire G
“It has made a huge difference to my confidence posting about my business on social media. I've had lots of positive feedback on my content and the number of views has steadily been climbing - which is more eyes on my business! The tips given about how to make the most of your content have saved me time and taken the stress out of creating content. I love the fact that she says it how it is and we have a laugh along the way!” Claire S
“Before I worked with you I would literally have preferred to pull out my own finger nails rather than market my services. I wasn’t posting (at all I think ). I went from that to posting twice a week (minimum) every single week. Without fail. Ever since we started working together. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that I’ve had my best business year since being self-employed as a result of working with you.” Lisa B
“You believed in me, and it helped me to believe in myself and what I was doing. You really helped me to understand that being neurodivergent comes with lots of challenges. Working with you really normalised some of the challenges that I felt I had. You're really real and really honest and really human” Sarah C
“It hasn't just helped me to be able to market my business. It's helped me to actually know what I want my business to be without making it what somebody else wants it to be” Christina L
Questions?
Are there any bonuses if I pay in full?
Yes - if you decide to pay in full not only do you get two months free you always get a free 90 minute Content Strategy call with me that you can use at any point during your membership.
Do I have to send you content every week?
No. You do not have to send me anything. However, some clients say that sending me content every week has helped them become more consistent and show up more. It’s not school and I’m not marking your homework. Feedback is always given in a kind and supportive way, I’m not telling you what you’re doing wrong. I’m showing you how you can make it better.
How much time does it take each week?
The Thursday session is around 90 minutes, and you'll get more out of it if you turn up with something you're stuck on. Outside of that, it's up to you. It’s not a course and there’s no homework.
What if I can't make Thursday mornings live?
Calls are not recorded to preserve the privacy of all members. The live sessions are where the magic happens — real feedback, in real time, on real writing — so it's worth arranging your week around it if you can, but it’s not school and there’s no attendance officer so zero guilt if life gets in the way one week.
I'm not a confident writer. Will I be out of my depth?
This is exactly who The Word Shed is for. You don't need to already write well — you need to be willing to bring your unfinished, unpolished, half-formed words and let someone help you shape them. Most people who join describe themselves as "not a writer." Most people who leave don't.
Will you tell me what to post, or teach me to figure it out myself?
Both, in that order. At first I'll give you a lot of direct feedback — what to change, why, how to make it sound more like you. Over time, the goal is that you need me less, because you'll have internalised the judgement calls yourself. That's the actual skill you're here to learn.
Is this just for LinkedIn?
No. We work on whatever you're writing that week — LinkedIn posts, emails, sales pages, workshop descriptions, website copy. The skill transfers across everything.
What if I join and it's not for me?
Book a call first if you're unsure — that's what it's there for. Once you're in, membership is monthly or paid in full annually; there's no long lock-in beyond that.
Why 12 months? Can't I just do a few weeks and see how it goes?
Writing in your own voice isn't a skill you pick up in six weeks — it's one you build through repetition, feedback and time. Twelve months is roughly what it takes to stop overthinking every sentence and start trusting yourself. If you’re looking for short term, 1:1 support, book a call and let’s talk and make a plan. Book a call
What happens to my price if membership fees go up later?
Nothing — your rate is locked in for as long as you stay a member in good standing. Doors open twice a year, and new joiners come in at whatever the current price is, but yours won't change. Ever.
Do I need to already have a niche or ideal client figured out?
No. A lot of members join without full clarity on this and work it out inside the membership — several have said that not knowing who they were writing for was exactly what was making the writing so hard.
Is there a community, or is it just you and me?
Both. You get direct feedback from me, plus a small, close-knit group of other members who read each other's work, share ideas and notice if you go quiet for a few weeks. Plus quarterly meet-ups in person.
